BLACK

BLACK (EA Criterion) http://www.criteriongames.com/black/behindthescenes/vfx/

This is where I started working in Games. EA Criterion were looking for a VFX artist to create all the effects for the game. Some of the hard work had already been done by other members of the team, and the vision was very clear which helped a great deal. However I was able to eventually own the effects adding my own innovations and shaping the tools and pipeline with the help of fantastic skills from the code team.

This game came out at the end of the PS2 and Xbox consol generation of and it still stands up quite well today. Amazingly we managed to get 14,000 particles on screen at peak times.

The Game featured a unique spark/ribbon system, volume/geometry lights and  mesh particles but mainly relied on old school techniques to make it look good.
